Setting up a BlackBerry Java Development Environment
BlackBerry Java Development Environment:
Windows® 2000 SPI or later, or Windows XP
32-bit Windows Vista® (BlackBerry JDE v4.2.1 and higher)
Java SE JDK v6.0
The file size for the BlackBerry JDE is about 250 MB
The file size for the Java SE SDK v6.0 is only 75 MB
The file size for the Java SE SDK v6.0 documentation is only 54 MB
The operating system I am using is on a Windows XP SP3
Those a pretty lightweight development environments if you ask me. Do not forget to download the documentation for the both the BB JDE and Java SE SDK.
BlackBerry Java Application Development
After the installation is finished, it takes up about 1.5 gigs of disk space for the development environment and do not forget more then 1 gig of memory is needed to run the Black Berry Simulation. Then, learning the BlackBerry JDE will take a while to get use to and how the classes are arranged. But running the simulation takes for ever to start, so its best to set the priority for it to real-time.
